Studio She offers FREE CUTS in Effort to Benefit Locks of Love

For Immediate Release
Studio She 240-329-6163
Local Group Efforts Benefit Locks Of Love
Maryland’s boutique salon, Studio She, in Frederick, MD offers Free Cuts to all who donate 10+ inches of hair to Locks of Love.
This event will benefit Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides vacuum fitted hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-tem medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated human hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns or injuries or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem or other dematological conditions that result in permanent hair loss. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. The prostheses they provide help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling these children to face the world and their peers.
The organization which began operation in 1998, provides the prostheses to children, ages 6-18, every 18 months for a total of up to 8 hairpieces. These hairpieces require between 6-10 ponytails and take approximately 4-6 months to manufacture. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrived as a result of national publicity that Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines, and televisions programs. It is estimated that children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this charity where children have an opportunity to help children.

Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines:
-it must be at least 10”, clean and dry
-it must be bundled in a ponytail or a braid
-bleached hair cannot be used
-hair that has been dyed or permed can be used

Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax deductible

Strand by Strand Hair Extensions

Strand by Strand So.Cap Hair Extensions

Transform a bad hair day with confidence. Strand by Strand So.Cap Hair Extensions add volume and length and are also fade resistant. With 90+ colors to work with, color matching is perfect!

The hair you have always dreamed of is absolutely possible. Strand by Strand Hair Extensions are undetectable and allow you to wear your hair up or down. Styling with strand by strand extensions is absolutely a huge time saver. The extensions hold curl longer than our own hair, which makes gorgeous curls possible with holding power!

So.Cap Hair Extensions are 100% Remy human hair (the cuticle is going in the same direction). This is very important, as typically lower grade extensions that tangle are usually not Remy and after a few weeks typically look and feel like a “hot mess”. The bond is pre-dipped in keratin (protein) which is then warm or cold fused to the hair cuticle. Unlike competitors, So.Cap has zero polymer in the bond which helps with minimal damage and long lasting extensions.

It is no surprise why the biggest stars of the entertainment industry are among its loyal users.

So.Cap extensions are not re-usable and are taken out with a professional remover solution and tool. Damage can be done during this process so it is very important that it is done by a Certified So.Cap Extensionist.
Protecting your investment is vital. Using So.Cap 4 U products is important to care for your extensions.

Brazlian Keratin Straightener using 24 Gold

Studio She announces "Everyday is a Good Hair Day"!

Brazilian Keratin Straightening Treatment with 24k Gold! For people who can't master a salon blowout at home or go get a weekly blowout, a treatment like this is seriously liberating.

Our Brazilian Keratin treatment is formaldehyde free.

Like most amazing treatments, it was used first on A-List Celebrities. And now, it is here in full effect.

The straightener is a keratin protein based formula that straightens the hair without breaking the bonds. The formula's first ingredient is milk, in comparison to others in which water is used. The combination of milk, keratin and silk proteins have the ability to reconstruct and retexturize the hair shaft from the inside out creating a smoothing and moisturizing effect. As it is not a chemical relaxer that breaks the bonds of the hair, its effect is not permanent.

This is a hair relaxer that smoothes, straightens and de-frizzes the hair without breaking the natural hair bonds. You will never see a line of demarcation when new hair begins to grow in. The Keratin Protein and the 24 K Gold particles combined together give the hair a very smooth effect. The system can be used on any type of hair, even the most damaged, which is why it is so popular and truly loved by both stylist and women all around the world.

*This can be used on all hair conditions, tinted, bleached, highlighted and relaxed without any additional hair breakage leaving the hair in a healthier state.
*Eliminates all frizz from the hair. In humid climates (hello east coast hair) the hair will not frizz!
*Will not make hair stick straight and can still be curled if desired.
*Hair is more manageable and easier to blow dry resulting in great shine and better condition.
*Cuts drying time up to 75%

Change Your Look With Hair Extensions

Switch it up with Hair Extensions

Hair extensions can be a great change to your look and style! Using Hair Extensions will give you the makeover that you have been searching for.

The decision to get hair extensions is constantly on the rise. Hair extensions are the simple answer to all of your hair challenges. Not only do they allow us to experiment with our style, they also give us the option of adding length and volume. Simple to advanced layers, color dimension and curls are all options without doing anything to our own hair. This is the key to obtaining the best of both worlds! Get the style you want without damaging your own hair.

Since the popularity of Pixie Cuts, Rhianna/Posh Spice Inspired Elongated Bobs we have noticed an increase of those that want hair extensions. Why? Simply put, not everyone has the “face” or “hair” for the short sassy cut. That said, once the mistake has been made the best option is some form of hair extension.

Another great way to achieve highlights and color is to use fade resistant hair extensions. This is great because your own hair will not be damaged while the cuticle usually is being broken down during color processing.

For those that have thin, fine hair (like myself), hair extensions are one stop shopping. You will get the volume you wish God blessed you with and you will also be able to style your hair and have the “look” last. What a concept! If you struggle with lifeless hair then you completely know what I am saying.

If you are considering hair extensions but you’re unsure about the aftercare that is involved be sure you speak to your stylist. These types of questions should be answered fully the day of your Hair Extension Consultation. It is also suggested that you have an “aftercare sheet” to help guide you and to help protect your investment. I will say this, using products that are not created for hair extensions can cause shedding, dryness and slippage. If your Stylist is saying to use any products on the extensions then I would keep searching. Oil is the number one cause of losing extensions and 99.9% of products out there contain oil.

Styling hair extensions is typically the same as styling your hair without extensions. However, hair is dead and the heavy use of blowdryers, curling irons, flat irons etc are not suggested. Basically, if you want to protect your investment and your hair you need to back off on all the heat. I am assuming that we are talking about human hair during this article. If you have synthetic hair, you are advised to not use any form of heat as typically the hair will melt. There are a few companies on the market that have synthetic hair extensions but they usually lack in the color matching department.

The use of human hair as your hair extensions means that your extensions can be treated in exactly the same as you would treat your own hair; you are able to wash them, style them and tie them back in the same way and method that you would with your natural hair.

If you are considering hair extensions, I would highly suggest going to a professional Hair Extensionist. There are several different methods on the market and not all methods are created for everyone. It is important that you are educated as to what method is right for you. Unfortunately most Stylists are only certified with one company. There are several guidelines that should be followed while deciding which type of hair extension is right for you. Selecting the right method will help you achieve your “hair goals” and also prevent damage.

Please read more of our articles about Hair Extensions I am confident in directing you to good hair days!

Hair = Power.

Japanese Hair Straightening Solves East Coast FRIZZ

Across the world women share a common concern that is often turned into a daily struggle; curly, unruly and generally out of control hair is something that plagues us everyday and no matter what we do nothing seems to be able to solve this problem. Thankfully however back in 1996 a lady known as Ms Yuko in Japan developed a revolutionary system that revolved around a non coating straightening system, which uses heat oxidation as a means of sealing in and rebuilding the hair from the inside out. This system is now known simply as Japanese hair straightening systems and is one of the most popular forms of permanent hair straightening.

People are now taking advantage of this treatment, which is already highly popular in places such as Japan and Los Angeles and when you think about it the reasons become very clear. What I mean by this is the facts that surround how long it takes us on average to try and control our unruly hair every morning. Basically studies have been conducted and concluded that on average 67% of women blow dry and straighten their locks everyday, which generally takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete so when you total this up that’s a massive 275 hours a year that we spend on straightening. With the help of this process you gain all of this time back. You will no longer spend nearly an hour a down trying to get your locks to look smooth and sleek. Instead you will literally have to wash your hair, that’s it! You can then leave it to dry naturally and it will dry straight with no action on your behalf, the only thing you may want to do is quickly run your straighteners through for about five minutes but that’s it.

Japanese Straightening system is a chemically based one that is designed to permanently straighten out your hair, but is something that can only be performed at a salon. It involves a chemical solution being placed onto your hair and heated irons that are used to seal the solution in. It is a solution that can be used on almost all types of hair, excluding only two, which are afro and bleached. It is also a system that actually improves the look and feel of your locks the more you have it carried out. So how long will the system generally last for when it has been performed on your locks? It is estimated that this treatment will last anything up to 12 months but as the treatment doesn’t really fade out but rather it grows out, the actual amount of time will depend more on how long it takes for your hair to grow.

By just spending four to five hours in a salon you will leave with glossy, shiny and smooth healthy looking hair that is poker straight and easy to manage. You will basically never have to worry about another bad hair day again.

For all of your Yuko Hair Straightening needs look no further than Studio She Salon in Frederick MD as they are experienced and experts when it comes to administering this treatment.

Human Hair Extensions Asian Hair VS Russian Hair

Human Hair Extensions - Indian Vs European and Asian Hair
Author: Studio She
Christina Jones

As a Stylist that specializes in the art hair extensions, I found the origin of donors is of the utmost of importance to determine quality. The quality of your hair extension hair will determine whether or not they look real, and how long the hair lasts.

There are a large number of hair extension artists claiming to use virgin Indian hair for many hundreds even thousands of dollars, when in actual fact they are selling good quality European hair sourced from donors with origins in South America, Italy, Eurasian ect . This hairs cuticle has been harshly processed to strip out the very thick texture and dark colour pigments. To mimic western hair (Caucasian), the hair is re-tinted using fabric colours not hair colours to achieve the desired shade. Asian Hair Hair sourced from donors of Asian and China donors is a very course hair strand and grows naturally very dark and very straight. The pigments are stripped back to nothing then a short lasting silicon coating is added for a more realistic texture. For this reason Asian hair is usually the cheapest and most unnatural looking hair available on the market only lasting for the short term.

Raw Virgin Indian Hair has NEVER been chemically treated and the cuticle is not processed and stripped unlike Asian. The hair reacts beautifully to salon products and remains silky even after lighting and colouring. Raw virgin Russian hair is widely known as the "creme de la creme" of hair and of the finest quality. The hair not only looks the most natural but also last for years not months. Virgin Indian hair is softer, finer and more compatible with western hair allowing the hair move naturally with more volume which means less extensions and less potential damage to your own hair. Cost Factors

Due to the scarce nature of sourcing raw virgin Indian hair the initial cost can be significantly more than Asian hair. People only compare prices directly, however volume and durability should also be an important consideration. You may find that over the long term you can purchase raw virgin Indian hair for the same price as Asian hair when allowing for how long the hair will last and how many extensions you need. Chemically treated hair is flat and lifeless needing more hair to produce the same affect as non treated hair. In addition to volume, raw virgin Indian hair will last for years not months so the only cost is the cost a hair extension artist will charge for uplifting the extensions. Many well known brands do not offer uplifting due to the poor quality and durability of the product they use. If hair extension artists or salons claim to offer raw virgin Indian hair but can only guarantee the product for less than six months it is more than likely a false claim.

Quick Facts: Asian
As we know, Asian hair is NOT like our own. Did you know that Asian hair is put into a chemical bath, which breaks down the cuticle to make the hair thinner and more like our own? It is then, put in a silicone bath which gives it the appearance of healthy looking hair. However, as soon as you wash this hair you will notice that it will soon go back to "wiglike straw looking" hair. For this reason I do not use Asian hair for any other purpose than a quick fix Halloween Costume type of situation.

Hair only last in original condition for a short period Not recommended to colour as hair becomes even more porous Does not look real Not recommended to swim Frequently tangles Maintenance is very high Needs to be styled often

Quick Facts: Raw Virgin Indian hair extensions

Our supplier has a donor clinic in India. We are proud of our contact because this person supplies all the Movie Industry Stylists. Which means, that the "who's who" in the Celebrity world is wearing the same product as our clients. Our hair is re-usable and to be honest, the best on the market.

It is avail. in links, fusion and can also be sown to a weft and then used for a clip in or invisible weft.

How To Find a Good Hair Extensionist

How To Find A Professional Extensionist

As a stylist who has been working with extensions for over 11 years, I find it vital to pass on some ofmy education. I think that it is truly amazing how the industry has grown.Gone are the old days of the hot pot method, glue gun (hate those words). Welcome a new era of Cold fusion, Ceramic Fusion, Links, Shrinkies etc. Not only are my fingers happy that the old method is gone but for my clients they now spend less time in the chair and more time enjoying their new tresses.
Often clients email or phone me and say that they want the best! From all around the US they are in search of a stylist who will not damage their hair and provide them with great extensions. Of course we all want the best but I would like to clarify what makes the best hair extension. Loosely used is the term Remy. It seems that the hype right now is all about Remy. But to a stylist it simply means that the cuticle is going in the same direction. That said the hair should always be Remy. I have noticed some companies really marketing their products because it is Remy. I find it a bit of a marketing ploy because to the unknowing it sounds like you are getting something magical and amazing. Clients are lead to believe that if they buy Remy it won't tangle, mat or become dry. This is misleading. Remy hair comes in Italian, Chinese and European. All hair should be Remy.
For a great set of extensions you want to use good hair. Hair that doesn't tangle and doesn't shed and a bond that won't damage your own hair. I have read nightmare stories on hair forums and it bothers me to still hear of so many bad extension stories. The concept "you get what you pay for" works great...to an extent.
My suggestion is to seek a stylist who has photos. Someone who is passionate about what they can offer you. I truly get excited when I meet a prospective client. Mostly because I know what I can offer them. Be sure he/she is certified OR has the credentials to back the talent up. I also think it is great when the stylist is actually wearing extensions. This way they understand exactly what it is like when you lose an extensions, what it is like to take care for them etc.
Also, ask to see the hair. You will want to see it, touch it and ask questions about the hair. Where does it come from? What ingredients make up the bonding agent? Will it tangle? Shed? Is there any type of glue in the keratin bond? What is needed to take out the extensions? I also suggest finding out what type of maintenance plan you need and how often they suggest coming to visit their salon.
Did you know that So.Cap is a all natural keratin bond? It doesn't tangle, it doesn't shed and honestly you will be pleased to know that it last up to 5 months and will not damage your hair. So.Cap only sells their products to licensed and certified stylists. The highest possible range in colors to offer you the best match. There is no acetone/remover used to take the extensions out. Personally I find this company to be the least aggressive extension line on the market today. As someone who has fine hair, each strand matters to me and I absolutely adore this brand.
Lastly, if the styslit doesn't have before and after photos....I would be careful. After all it is your hair and an investment.
I am always here to answer questions.

Top 10 Reasons why Women Lose Their Hair

If your hair is thinning or falling out, you are probably anxious to find out why. Is hair loss due to heredity, childbirth, stress or some other factor? Approximately 90% of your hair is growing at any one time, while the other 10% enter a resting phase. Every two to three months the resting hair falls out and allows new hair to grow in its place.
We constantly hear about the challenge of men's hair loss, all of the products they offer, and what they can do about it. However, women struggle through the same problems every day, which I don't believe society is as well aware of. In many situations, the causes are recognizable and treatable, and there are many things that contribute to each. This is a continuing problem, affecting some thirty something million women just in the United States.
Women as early of an age as fifteen and sixteen are finding themselves developing a hair loss challenge, which isn't totally common, but it's not unheard of. Remember- It is so very important to get the right diagnosis from a physician before attempting any form of treatment on your own.
ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA or FEMALE PATTERN BALDNESS Women automatically are born to have a low amount of testosterone, and when that comes in contact with the enzymes in the hair cell, it changes it's make up to an androgen DHT, (dihydrotestosterone) which attaches to receptors low into the hair follicle. This same process repeated overtime causes excessive build-up of DHT in the hair follicle, causing it to shrink, which conflicts with the natural process of growth in the hair itself. Depending on each specific case of androgenic alopecia, some or many of the follicles eventually die and some become unable to produce or maintain normal hair growth. Alopecia can be stress-induced or genetic.
Other Hair Loss Factors:
TEMPORARY HAIR LOSS Even when it's not obtained naturally or genetically, hair loss can occur in any women at any age, majorly depending on what is occurring at that time of the individual's life. Changes in the hair growth can begin following:
-Major changes in diet --Disorders -Malnutrition -A severe infection -Low or too high of vitamin intake -Medications (used to treat: gout, arthritis, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure, or blood thinner.)
After an event such as above, almost ninety percent of growing hair can quickly go all at once into the "shedding" phase anywhere from six weeks to several months after the event occurs.
Other Factors that can contribute to women's hair loss:
Low iron content: Hair requires high levels of regular nutrients for proper development and growth. When women go through the changing process of their menstruation cycles, iron levels are frequently less then desired, and the fundamental mineral is often a contributing cause for hair loss.
Hyperthyroid Disorders: When the body is in crisis, the cells of the hair are able to shut themselves down to put their energy to use somewhere else in the body.
Drinking Alcohol: Excessive drinking affects your diet and vitamin count which has the ability to cause hair loss. There are stress reactions that can promote hair loss after heavy alcohol consumption; the more alcohol intake, the increased amount of stress put on your body. This heavily affects the liver, which is a critical organ within the hormones in your body.
Smoking: Cigarette smoke has a large impact on the hair follicle. Smoke can have up to 4,000 damaging chemicals that can cause hair loss, breakage, dullness, and not to mention a not so great smell. Smoke cancels the flow of an important amount of oxygen and nutrients through your bloodstream, and when hair is denied its proper amount of important nutrition, it promotes unhealthy tresses and breakage. If you're looking for shimmering shine and healthy hair, talk to your physician about quitting smoking immediately for the sake of your hair, and importantly overall health.
Stress: Yes, Stress. They say it isn't stress that kills but it is how you deal with stress that kills. Well, stress can also contribute to hair loss. Our bodies react differently and at times, surprisingly. The dictionary defines stress as a "demand upon physical or mental energy". Stress puts demands on people to perform well above their capacity. Stress happens to all of us, typically each day. Stress can also be related to change.
Hair loss influenced by stress usually occurs after severe stress, such as surgery or illness. This is referred to telogen effluvium. It takes about 6 months to a year to reverse the signs.
Pregnancy: Hair loss that is connected to pregnancy usually occurs after delivery. During pregnancy, an increased number of hairs go into the resting phase, which is part of the normal hair loss cycle. This condition is not serious enough to cause bald spots or permanent hair loss, and should begin to diminish within 3-4 months after delivery. If you feel that you are experiencing unusual hair loss while you are pregnant, this may be due to a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Brazilian Keratin Straightening Treatments

Brazilian Keratin Straightening Systems - FORMALDEHYDE FREE
Allure Magazine and others have been writing about the latest trend...Brazilian Keratin Straightening Systems.

Studio She began to dig deep into this trend to bring you more information about "saying goodbye to frizzy/unruly hair".

The newest concepts on the market in the hair industry are the Brazilian straightening treatments. Like you, we've done our research. We've searched the entire internet, called salons all across the country, and tested out many different products. So here's what we've discovered. Originating in Brazil, where it is usually called escova progressiva (progressive blow-dry), the treatment has been trickling here for a few years but has become widely available only in the last six months. Sarah Brown, the beauty editor of Vogue, said the treatment is perfect for those with tumbleweed hair who are trying to simplify their lives. "For people who can't master a salon blowout at home or go get a weekly blowout, a treatment like this is seriously liberating," she said. My next biggest question was: how much does this service usually cost? While being experienced with relaxers, chemical straightening, and texturizers, which is always a minimum of $150 for a good service; however, the chemicals in these solutions are so harsh and damaging, "Brazilian Treatments" seemed to range anywhere from $150 to over $600. So, after trial and tribulation, we found a Brazilian Keratin treatment that Is formaldehyde FREE. Not a treatment, a ritual. This service is incredible for anybody to treat their tresses to, healthy or damaged, highlighted or relaxed.
This formula contains two types of keratin, human hair keratin and botanical keratin. Enriched with vitamins from plants such as apple and vanilla bean, this treatment can be applied the same day as your color service without any damage or breakage to the hair.
This is not a permanent straightener or any form of chemical relaxer service. It contains no thio or lye, like a thermal or Japanese straightener. Formaldehyde is known as a cancer-causing chemical that many chemical straightening processes contain very high concentrations of.
What kinds of hair can handle this service?
Anyone and any hair type would benefit from this service, and for any client that desires silky, smooth hair. Hair that has undergone chemical processes, such as: coloring, straightening, relaxation, definite brushing, and hair that is brittle, elastic or rubbery. Also natural hair that is excessively dry.
How often do you get this done?
You can have this conditioning system done every 4-6 weeks if desired; however, you can get up to 15 weeks with only one treatment. This service works as a system, so it's important to follow every step up the process, even when you leave the salon. Using the right maintenance products insures the hair treatment is long term. We carry the company's very own replenishing shampoo and conditioner, and smoothing lotion for styling.
What is the difference between human hair keratin and botanical keratin?
Human hair keratin goes further into the cuticle than any other form of keratin because its molecular structure is smaller. Botanical keratin fuses with and encapsulates the hair cuticle to guarantee longer lasting results.
Is this at all damaging?
There is no risk of damage to the hair whatsoever. This product is formaldehyde FREE, therefore there is no risk of the harmful side effects of formaldehyde. If you decide to have the service more than once, it's not like a color touch-up where the product is only applied at the roots and re-growth area. It is applied from root to tip each appointment because it will only condition and richen hair that is already treated.
